Cerritos : Irrigation Project Begins

Construction of an $8.5-million project to irrigate Cerritos parks, street medians and areas around public buildings with treated waste water began this week. When completed, Cerritos will become the first city in southeast Los Angeles County to irrigate public lands entirely with treated waste water.
The entire project should be in place by early 1987. The first phase is the installation of underground pipelines along Studebaker and Carmenita roads. A total of 20 miles of new pipeline and a pumping station will be built to move the treated waste water from the county treatment plant along the San Gabriel River to city sprinklers.
About half of the project’s cost will be covered by $4.5 million in grants from the state Water Resources Board.
