The sun is expected to shine on San Diego for the second consecutive January weekend.

Except for some early-morning coastal fog, blue skies are expected throughout the county at least until Monday. According to the National Weather Service, a high-pressure system is protecting the Southland from storms and is preventing rain from reaching San Diego.

“Storms are coming in quite regularly from north of the Hawaiian Islands, but the high pressure diverts them northward as they come near the West Coast,” forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

He said the trend should continue through the beginning of next week.

The surf is three to six feet with swells to eight feet on west-facing beaches. A small-craft advisory is in effect through today at the Oceanside Harbor, Shigehara said.

Tides are slightly below normal with a 4.6-foot tide expected at 3:35 a.m. Saturday and a 4.8-foot tide at 4:22 a.m. Sunday. The water temperature is about 57 degrees.

Sailors can expect typical southwest breezes of 8 to 15 m.p.h.

Relative humidity should be higher than last weekend, reaching about 57% downtown today through Sunday.

Daytime temperatures in all areas are expected to warm gradually through the weekend to slightly above-average highs by Sunday.

At the beaches, temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid-60s today and near 70 by Saturday or Sunday.

Coastal strip highs of 66 today may reach the mid-70s by Saturday, with lows around 50. Inland valley highs are expected to hit 73 today and may reach 76 over the weekend. Lows will be mild--between 44 and 50 degrees.

Desert highs in the 70s today may reach the 80s Saturday. Desert lows will be in the 40s. Mountain highs in the 50s today and up to 63 Saturday may dip into the 30s at night.
