800 Hollywood Homes in Dark

About 800 homes in the Hollywood area were without power for two hours early this morning because of underground switch problems, a Department of Water and Power spokesman said. Power was restored to the area, bounded by Melrose, Highland, Willoughby and Fuller avenues, just before 2 a.m. Power also failed in a 10-block area on the south side of downtown for more than two hours Thursday night, but no problems were reported by police, who sent extra patrols to the area.
