SDSU Women Beat UC Irvine in Tennis

San Diego State defeated UC Irvine, 7-2, in a nonconference women’s tennis match at Irvine.

The Aztecs (1-0), No. 10 in the nation, were led by No. 1 singles player Cathy Berry, who defeated Irvine’s Stephanie Rhorer, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. San Diego State’s No. 4 player, Kristen Hill, defeated Uma Rao, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

UCI’s only victories came in doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of Haruko Schigekawa and Dina Trenwith defeated Monique Javer and Dana Bleicher, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 doubles, Libby Despot and Rohrer defeated Jessica Buss and Sondra Mitchell, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Irvine is 0-1.
