Peace Ministry to Present Award

The sixth annual dinner meeting of the Interfaith Peace Ministry of Orange County will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Anaheim United Methodist Church, 1000 S. State College Blvd.

The program highlight will be the presentation of the Paul Delp Peace Award to the Orange County resident who has done the most to achieve a “faith-based peace with justice,” according to program sponsors. It will be presented by last year’s winner, Larry Agran, a lawyer and Irvine city councilman.

New ministry officers will be elected during the meeting, which will also feature entertainment by Jim and Jean Strathdee, who recently returned from a trip to Central America.

The vocations office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange is sponsoring a vocation day of prayer and information about the priesthood and religious life from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Marywood Center in Orange. Irvine Presbyterian Church will begin its Adult Sunday school program at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 5 Meadowbrook in Irvine. Sandwiched between 8 and 10:45 a.m. worship services will be six hourlong classes on a variety of subjects, such as the Old Testament and the four Gospels, and classes designed for those in college, young couples and singles. The New England Youth Ensemble, directed by Virgina-Gene Rittenhause, will participate in Sunday services at the Crystal Cathedral, 12141 Lewis St., Garden Grove. The Rev. Robert A. Schuller of Rancho Capistrano Community Church will offer a series of sermons on love at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at 29251 Camino Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano. A daylong workshop for those interested in learning about the Diocese of Orange’s prison outreach program will be held Jan. 25 at Marywood Center, 2811 E. Villa Real Drive in Orange. The program on “Catholic Detention Ministry” will feature speakers covering such subjects as the theology of ministry, the juvenile justice system, detention facilities, and aspects of service, prayer, communication skills and drug use.
