Hazards, Advantages of Costa Mesa Freeway Car-Pool Lane

Share

As a longtime commuter and as a concerned citizen, I would like to commend you and Kim Murphy for your objective and responsible coverage of car-pool lanes on the Costa Mesa Freeway, State Route 55, north and south bound.

It is evident that the lane is obviously of grave concern to a large majority of those who use it. I believe this will become more clear when the inevitable happens and innocent people are killed.

The commuter lane is hazardous to persons using the lane--and adjacent lanes.

Apart from the obvious physical hazards it is doubly dangerous because it is creating anger, frustration and irrational behavior.

In Orange County we don’t need these types of frustrations. We are people on the move and moving is our way of life. We are dramatically opposed to persons, groups or others who would limit our mobility.

My suggestion is that the lanes be open and that the Highway Patrol and the California Department of Transportation direct its attention to moving traffic and assisting and educating the public on how to drive the freeways.
