Tustin : 3 New Ordinances to Regulate Fortune-Tellers
The City Council has unanimously approved three ordinances to regulate fortune-telling in the city.
The ordinances require new zoning regulations for fortune-telling, define application procedures and allow for background checks on prospective applicants.
They came as the result of a 1985 state Supreme Court decision that said cities could not ban fortune-telling outright but could regulate the practice.
With Monday’s decision, Tustin joins cities throughout state that have either repealed fortune-telling bans or modified their codes to regulate the businesses.
Tustin had no ban on fortune-telling, but the city had no ordinances regulating the practice, according to City Clerk Mary Wynn.
