Simi Valley Rider Finishes Third in Anaheim Supercross
Johnny O’Mara of Simi Valley placed third Saturday in the first Supercross of the season at Anaheim Stadium.
O’Mara, who finished behind Honda teammate David Bailey and Yamaha rider Rick Johnson in the 250cc class, won the first semifinal and rode consistently in the final for the third-place finish.
Jim Holley of Woodland Hills, the Rodil Cup champion, finished 12th, and Suzuki’s Erik Kehoe of Granada Hills finished 13th.
Kehoe crashed in the second semifinal, dropping him from second to fifth, but he came back and passed Billy Frank of Orange on the last turn of the final lap to finish second. Kehoe, however, crashed twice in the final.
Russ Wageman of Canoga Park was 14th on a Yamaha, and Kehoe’s Suzuki teammate A.J. Whiting of Burbank was 21st.
