The New York Mets’ Dwight Gooden had his injured left ankle examined by team physician James Parkes, and club officials said the pitcher should be 100% by the beginning of spring training. Gooden said he suffered the injury, described as a “mild sprain,” while shagging fly balls hit by his 17-year-old nephew in a park in his hometown of Tampa, Fla.
