Ford Aerospace received an Air Force contract.

The $16-million, two-year Air Force contract was awarded for development of a new satellite-launched anti-ballistic gun officially called the “Sagittar Experiment,” an element in the new Strategic Defense Initiative, or “Star Wars” program. The latest contract represents the second phase in the military’s attempt to develop a satellite-launched gun. Newport Beach-based Ford Aerospace had been participating in the initial phase, then called “Have Sting,” since September, 1984.
