Fischbeck said the elderly man stepped out from the bushes and pointed the shotgun at the officers. The officers fired after Nguyen ignored orders to drop the weapon, he said.

Nguyen was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. Fischbeck said it was not known why the man was hiding in the bushes with the weapon.
