Lorraine Moller of New Zealand took the lead near the 20-mile mark and won the ’86 Osaka International Women’s Marathon in 2 hours 30 minutes 24 seconds, beating runner-up Eriko Asai of Japan by more than four minutes at Osaka, Japan.
Asai finished in 2:34:47. She was followed by Rita Marchisio of Italy in 2:35:41 and Laurie Crisp of the United States in 2:36:24. Lisa Larsen Weidenbach of the United States finished ninth in 2:39:10 and Julie Brown dropped out with a leg cramp while among the leaders at 24 miles.
