Liverpool Advances by Beating Chelsea

Liverpool edged Chelsea, 2-1, Sunday and advanced to the fifth round of the English Football Assn. Soccer Cup.

Goals by Ian Rush and Mark Lawrenson gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead by the 47th minute before David Speedie tallied for Chelsea in the 63rd minute.

Chelsea, which is fourth in the English League First Division standings to Liverpool’s third, was dealt a costly blow when its top scorer, Kerry Dixon, fell heavily early in the match and was removed on a stretcher with a groin injury.
