“Canyon Consort.” Open Circle. $39.95. Paul Winter, the eclectic saxophonist who once used humpback whales as “sidemen,” has now turned to nothing less than the Grand Canyon for inspiration. It has served him well. Essentially, this video is a poignant documentary of a river journey taken by Winter and his band through the canyon. The interspersing of action shots and interviews with lovely footage of the canyon elevates the project into a revealing portrait of what makes Winter tick, both as a musician and as an ecologist.
