Countywide : Beach Blvd. ‘Superstreet’ Endorsed by Supervisors

Share

The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday endorsed a $24-million project to transform increasingly congested Beach Boulevard into a 19-mile thoroughfare with free-flowing traffic.

Supervisor Harriett Wieder said five of the nine cities that the boulevard runs through have also endorsed the project.

The Orange County Transportation Commission last month approved plans to make the road a “superstreet” and allocated $4 million to be used during the next two years to widen the street and intersections, coordinate traffic signals and establish turnouts so buses can stop without blocking traffic.

So far the project has received endorsements from Westminster, Buena Park, Anaheim, Fullerton and Garden Grove. La Habra, La Mirada, Stanton and Huntington Beach are expected to vote on the project soon.
