Two more prep football players have given verbal commitments to UCLA and two more players from Big Five Conference co-champion Long Beach Poly declared their college intentions as the national letter of intent day nears.
Linebacker Rocen Keeton of Gardena Serra and running back Brian Brown of Gardena, two of the best prospects at their position in the Los Angeles area, said they will attend UCLA. That brings to seven the number of local athletes who plan to sign with the Bruins.
Also, USC got its second commitment from a high school player, this time Shane Foley, a highly regarded quarterback from Newport Harbor in Newport Beach, who passed for 22 regular-season touchdowns and 3,026 yards overall last season. The Trojans recently signed a junior college transfer quarterback, Jason Schmid of Saddleback College.
Two other talented area running backs, Trevin Moore of Riverside Rubidoux and Tommy Jackson of Dorsey, have also made verbal commitments. Moore is going with Washington, while Jackson, one of the top runners in the City this season, said Tuesday night that he will attend Nevada Las Vegas.
At Long Beach Poly, tight end Michael Vaughn also announced that he will play for UNLV, while linebacker David Riley said he will go to Cal State Long Beach.
