Cerritos : Search for New ABC Chief

Share

The ABC Unified School District Board of Education has decided to hire a firm to search for a new superintendent for the 22,000-student district.

The district is seeking a replacement for Eugene Tucker, who had been superintendent for 10 years before accepting a similar post with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

The board voted 6-1 last week to select a search firm from among seven that board members have investigated through interviews, Board President Peggy Lee said Monday.

The board has scheduled a special meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday to possibly select a firm, Lee said.

The majority of the board believed that “an aggressive and qualified” professional firm should be hired because the district’s personnel department did not have the time or the expertise for the search, Lee said.

With both districts agreeing, Tucker, 56, is spending a portion of his time at each district until the end of the school year in May.

Tucker was hired by the Cerritos-based ABC district in 1976 from the Coachella Valley Unified School District, where he was superintendent.
