The International Chess Federation formally agreed to put off until summer the rematch scheduled for next month between world champion Gary Kasparov and former titleholder Anatoly Karpov. The two Soviet grandmasters joined the federation president, Florencio Campomanes, in Lucerne, Switzerland, to sign a document that said the rematch will start between July 28 and Aug. 4 at a location yet to be decided. Probable sites are Leningrad and London.
