Women’s Basketball : Williams Spurs Rally as Compton Wins

Marbette Williams led Compton College to a come-from-behind, 81-78 South Coast Conference women’s basketball win over Fullerton Wednesday night. Williams paced the Tarters with 26 points and 16 rebounds.
Compton trailed by seven at the half, 39-32, but behind the play of Williams and teammate Anzell Wells (20 points), the Tarters rallied to take a five-point lead, 80-74, with just a minute remaining.
The Hornets cut the Compton lead to 80-78 with two quick scores, but Betty Gross put the game out of reach for the Tarters by connecting on the first half of a one-and-one free throw situation with only three seconds left to give Compton the win.
Juli Bjork and Sandy Cotton paced Fullerton with 18 points each, while Rochelle Seadbrook added 12 points for the Hornets.
Bonnie Savanna added 8 points and 13 rebounds for the Tarters.
