Covering the Toes With Just Half a Sole
Armine Meghrouni of Anaheim is trying to locate shoe protectors that are made of a knit-nylon material and cover only the toes; also, they have a half-sole of foam padding. Can you be on your toes and help Meghrouni, or will she get wet feet and give up her sole-searching quest long before the shoe fits?
Ever since Webb’s department store closed, Anna Bishop of Glendale has been unable to find dress shirts or sport shirts with two pockets. (Her husband liked the Mr. California shirts best.) Can you roll up your sleeves and help with a retail source, or must Bishop keep her shirt on until somebody decides to cotton to her?
Leonora Bucknell of Los Angeles, who is handicapped, needs to have communication with her front door, but her current intercom system is not working, and, so far, the various companies she has contacted want to sell her new systems. All she asks for is a reputable firm that will repair her current system. Can you help with this person-to-person problem, or will Bucknell never be able to put her money where her mouth is?

Please help by forking over a few pieces, so that she won’t have to spend the rest of her life eating soup from a knife. . . . Rose at (213) 697-9749 is missing the control knob for a Westinghouse RO-5411 roaster oven, which she has had for a number of years. Please help before Rose can no longer take the heat and goes completely out of control.

Eileen Coughlin of Lomita, who was looking for a child’s carpenter belt with tools, will soon be able to start hammering away; we have two “nail-order” sources. Sheri Weisbender of West Los Angeles suggests Toys to Grow On, P.O. Box 17, Long Beach, Calif. 90801-0017, which sells a children’s On the Job Outfit for $16.95; and Mrs. Robert Bray of Santa Barbara reports that a recent catalogue by Lillian Vernon, 510 S. Fulton Ave., Mount Vernon, N.Y. 10550-5067, lists a 16-piece Toolkit Belt for $12.98 and a Child’s Carpentry Chest for $16.98.
Sylvia Guttman of Los Angeles, who was searching for a cookie press with a coffee-grinder-type handle, may have to do some looking before she can start cooking. Mary Parker of Rancho Palos Verdes told us that such a cookie press is made by Mirro Aluminum Co. And Mirro said that K mart, True Value hardware stores, Ace Hardware and Thrifty Drugs usually stock the item.
Toby Horn of Los Angeles, who was looking for plastic seat protectors for dining room chairs, may also have to go the mail-order route, if she doesn’t want to be a “chair-ity” case. Mrs. E. F. Nickerson of Santa Barbara says Walter Drake, 16 Drake Building, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80940, sells a set of six Chair Seat Covers (H2379) for $2.49. And Marge Taylor of Oceanside writes that Taylor Gifts (no relation), 355 E. Conestoga Road, P.O. Box 206, Wayne, Pa. 19087, lists a set of 12 Chair Protectors (No. 1790) for $8.98.
The heat should soon be off Lisa Hanson of Palm Desert, who was trying to locate mugs that keep drinks cool. Florence Hooper of Canoga Park says a Frosty Mug is available from Glacier Ware Inc., 1395 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, Conn. 06002-1309, (203) 242-7775. And Carol Scheck of La Canada says Southwest Foam Molding, P.O. Box 448, Keller, Tex. 76248, is distributor for the Freeze Sleeve, a foam-insulated beverage can or bottle holder with refrigerant gel.
