Mount St. Mary’s College in Brentwood has received a $250,000 grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to establish a scholarship fund. Income from the endowment will provide financial aid for qualified students, with preference given to those majoring in the sciences.
Sister Magdalen Coughlin, president of the college, said the grant is a major step toward building an endowed scholarship fund to replace decreasing government money for student aid.
Keck grants to the college since 1982 have established an $800,000 student loan fund that has benefited more than 160 students. The fund has been augmented by three additional grants, from the Jones, Leavey and Parsons foundations.
