An accident Friday night on California 94 in Lemon Grove killed a 78-year-old Montana woman and injured four others, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Sadie Bliss, 78, a Montana resident who was spending the winter in Chula Vista, was killed when the car in which she was riding collided with a car coming from the opposite direction, the CHP said.

Bliss was a passenger in a car driven by Clinton Johnson, 59, of Lakeside. Other passengers were Johnson’s wife, Sharon, 46, and Margaret Vowell, 69.

The driver of the other car, Lillian Valencia, 54, of San Diego, told the CHP she was traveling at 50 to 55 m.p.h. when she applied her brakes to avoid hitting a slow car in front of her. Valencia’s car swerved on the rain-slick roadway and crossed the center divider, hitting Johnson’s on the left side. The force of impact pushed the Johnson’s car into an embankment.

Valencia was taken to Alvarado Hospital with minor injuries. Clinton Johnson was reported in fair condition at Grossmont Hospital, and Sharon Johnson was reported in fair condition at Alvarado Hospital. Vowell, who was at Grossmont Hospital, was reported as having minor injuries.

An investigation is continuing.
