A slow-moving Southern Pacific switch train was derailed in the industrial section of Los Angeles, officials reported, blocking traffic for several hours at the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Alameda Street. According to Andrew Anderson, Southern Pacific spokesman in San Francisco, the 19 tank and flat cars had come from East Los Angeles and all were empty. None of them overturned in the derailment.
