Chapman’s Kelly, Rollins Out Tonight
Chapman College’s struggling men’s basketball team suffered two more blows Monday when the Panthers learned they would have to play tonight’s nonconference game against U.S. International University without guard Mike Kelly and forward Paul Rollins.
Kelly, the team’s captain and second-leading scorer, pulled his left hamstring during Saturday’s 68-57 loss to Cal Poly Pomona and is expected to miss at least one game. Kelly is averaging 11.5 points a game and leads the team in assists.
Rollins, a reserve forward, injured his left knee in the same game and may require surgery. He is averaging 5.2 points and 2.7 rebounds.
Sophomore Wayne Briggs (1.5 points) is expected to replace Kelly in the starting lineup.
USIU is a Division I school with a 7-12 overall record. Chapman, which has lost its last four, is 5-14.
