Sea World officials reported that a killer whale, only the eighth born in captivity, was born dead at the park last week. It was the second birth and death of a killer whale at Sea World in the last month. A 350-pound killer whale was born at the park Jan. 5, but died 11 days later of a viral infection and heart ailment. The second calf was stillborn Friday, park spokeswoman Jackie Hill said. Both calves were fathered by Shamu, Sea World’s star performing whale, Hill said. Only one of the eight killer whales born in captivity has survived. That calf was born at Sea World’s park in Orlando, Fla., in September.
