Birthday Party for Glendale Is Sunday
A birthday cake 10 feet square has been ordered by Glendale city officials to mark the 80th anniversary of the city’s incorporation on Feb. 16, 1906.
A slice of the cake will be served to each participant at a celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401 N. Verdugo Road.
A brief ceremony at 3 p.m. will pay tribute to all guests celebrating their 80th birthday this year.
As part of the program, each participant can sign a post card attached to a balloon that will be released. Prizes will be awarded to the sender and receiver of the card found farthest from Glendale and returned by March 16.
Entertainment will be provided by a Dixieland band and City Girls drill team, representing students from local schools. City Girls also will serve as hostesses.
Senior citizens can ride to the party free on Glendale’s Beeline shuttle buses from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
Mayor Jerold Milner invited everyone in the city to the party: “It is, after all, the people in a city who make an anniversary worth celebrating.”
