The sale of Vauclain Point in Hillcrest for eventual use as the site of a 24-bed hospice was made final Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors.

The county will sell the 10-acre parcel to the City of San Diego for $3 million. The city, in turn, will sell the land to the nonprofit San Diego Hospice Corp.

Purchase of the land and construction of the facility are being funded by the Joan B. Kroc Foundation.

The San Diego AIDS project, which now occupies the site, has already received notice from the county that it must vacate the buildings by May 1.

Four of the five supervisors indicated Tuesday that they want the $3 million from the sale to be put in a fund for construction of courthouse and jail buildings. A final decision on the use of the money is scheduled for March 11.
