Bellflower : Farmers’ Market Coming
After nearly a year of planning, the city will begin operating the downtown Bellflower Certified Farmers Market on March 10.
The market, which will be open from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Mondays, will be on Laurel Street west of Bellflower Boulevard.
Although a portion of Laurel Street will be closed to through traffic to Bellflower Boulevard, the market will not interfere with traffic along the boulevard, city officials said.
From 15 to 18 farmers will participate in the market, according to Hullie Hull, who was hired by the city to manage and organize the market.
Products will include vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, fish and shrimp.
“We want to bring the market to downtown Bellflower to help generate foot traffic in the area,” Councilman John Ansdell said.
The farmers will not pay rent but the city will receive 3.25% of the daily gross of each farmer.
The market, which has been certified by the state Department of Agriculture, is a member of the Southland Farmers Market Assn.
