ROCKY ROAD

Sly Stallone, that great American icon, has got his own building at the MGM/UA lot, the only contemporary star who can so boast. The Sylvester Stallone Building--which houses producers’ offices (including Sly’s)--is nestled on the Culver City lot alongside buildings named after luminaries Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Judy Garland, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy, Joan Crawford and Clark Gable.
“It’s not a new building--it’s one that was renamed,” said a studio spokesman. “I’ve heard the decor is kind of ‘high-tech.’ ”
Meanwhile, Chartoff-Winkler Productions, the folks who brought you the “Rocky” films, will continue their quest to get a one-block street named Rocky Place in Culver City. Now called Jean Place, the street borders the side of the Chartoff-Winkler Building facing Washington Boulevard in Culver City.
The Planning Commission turned down the request. “So we’re asking the City Council to reconsider,” said a Chartoff-Winkler spokesman, explaining that the producers have agreed to pay the costs of the change, “like the street sign and the alteration of maps.”
