Santa Ana : Man Dies After Pickup Slams Into Palm Tree
- Share via
A driver who swerved off the street and crashed into a palm tree Saturday died later at Western Medical Center.
With no witnesses, police did not know why a pickup truck driven by Bonifacio Azevedo, 46, of Santa Ana swerved off Civic Center Drive near Minter Street in Santa Ana about 2:30 p.m. Azevedo may have been trying to avoid another driver or an animal in his path, Police Investigator Tony Duran said.
The driver’s side of the vehicle slammed into a massive palm tree on the lawn of an abandoned two-story house. The truck sustained minor damage, but the steering wheel twisted and pinned Azevedo inside the cab, Duran said.
