UCLA Men Win in Track; Gail Devers Runs 11.32

UCLA’s John Frazier won the hammer throw with a toss of 195 feet 4 inches and the shotput with an effort of 60-10 as the Bruins easily defeated San Diego State and Cal State Los Angeles in a double-dual track and field meet Saturday at UCLA’s Drake Stadium.

UCLA freshmen Henry Thomas, Danny Everett and Brandon Everett all scored wins in their outdoor debuts. Thomas won the 100 in 10.42, Everett won the 200 in 20.83 and Richards won the pole vault by clearing 16-6.

In the women’s division, UCLA’s Gail Devers won the 100 and 200 and long jump, but San Diego State edged the Bruins, 72-64, for team honors. Devers’ time in the 100 was 11.32 seconds, fastest time in the world this year and an NCAA qualifying mark. She won the 200 in 23.7 and leaped 20-4 in the long jump.

UCLA freshman Choo Choo Knighten won both women’s hurdles events, clocking 14.37 in the 100 and 1:02.21 in the 400. San Diego State seniors Renee Ross and LaTanya Sheffield were double winners.
