Channel 13 should not even bother to show a film as well thought of and honored as “The Searchers” if it is going to mutilate it to the point of non-recognition as the station did on Feb. 4. This is truly a landmark film of pride, determination, racial prejudice and, in a roundabout way, understanding. However, the version shown on KCOP made it impossible to follow any of those themes and bore no resemblance to the film John Ford made 30 years ago.
