The county will approach the City of San Diego to explore the possibility of locating the new central public library and cultural arts center on one or both of the County Administration Center’s parking lots, the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday.

The board passed the motion 3 to 2, with Supervisors George Bailey and Leon Williams saying they felt the parking lots would not be an appropriate site for the new library because of poor public access and other considerations.

The city is considering purchase of the Sears building on Cleveland Avenue in North Park and the downtown Community Concourse as sites for the new library.
