Schaeffer to Succeed Smith at Blue Cross
Leonard D. Schaeffer, formerly president of Group Health Inc. in Minnesota, has been appointed president and chief executive of Blue Cross of California, the state’s largest health insurance plan. The selection of Schaeffer, 40, marks the end of a six-month nationwide search to replace Daniel L. Smith as Blue Cross of California president. Smith announced last year that he would retire as president in 1986. Smith, 62, will continue to serve as chairman of the board of Blue Cross of California.
