Arcadia : Peafowl Feeding Illegal
The City Council and the county Department of Animal Care and Control have asked residents not to feed the hundreds of peafowl living near the Arboretum. It is illegal to make food available to birds in a public street, sidewalk or parkway, officials said.
Assistant City Manager Steve Bocian said the city has received several complaints in recent months from residents whose lawns or gardens had been damaged by the peafowl, which congregate where food is made available and then move in flocks to nearby areas.
City officials said that placing wooden or clay animals on lawns, keeping cats and dogs visible or turning on automatic lawn sprinklers will keep peafowl out of yards.
