Azusa : Commissioner Appointed

Share

Longtime Azusa resident Jessie O’Shea has been appointed a member of the Planning Commission, replacing Herbert Fisher in a move that sharply divided the City Council. Councilmen Bruce Latta, Lucio Cruz and James Cook last month voted for Fisher’s removal because ill health had caused him to miss several commission meetings. The three appointed Sarah Peterson to the seven-member commission over the objection of Mayor Eugene Moses, who nominated O’Shea, who has long sought the appointment.

Armando Camarena also opposed appointing Peterson, who has lived in Azusa for six years, and City Atty. Peter Thorson ruled that the council majority’s action violated a city code that requires the city to publicly post an announcement of any commission opening for 10 days. Cook joined Moses and Camarena in appointing O’Shea. She will complete Fisher’s term, which will expire in June, 1988.
