Local News in Brief : No Kidnaping Charges to Be Filed Against 14

Share

Kidnaping charges will not be filed against 14 people arrested Sunday after a 26-year-old Los Angeles woman alleged that they held her captive for two days in a Sepulveda apartment, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Wednesday that there was insufficient evidence to file charges because the woman recanted her story, Detective Sherrie Santor said. Police were at a loss to explain the woman’s actions.

The district attorney’s office, however, asked the Los Angeles city attorney’s office to consider charging two of the men with failure to obey a police officer. One of the men tried to kick an officer during his arrest, the other jumped out a window and fled but was arrested a block away, Santor said.

A 17-year-old who lived in the Sepulveda apartment was charged with one misdemeanor count of being present where a controlled substance was being used.

Police said they found 21 grams of marijuana in the apartment, which they described as a drug “rock house.”
