The California Tahoe Conservancy approved the spending of $2.3 million for acquiring 300 environmentally sensitive lots in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Funds for the acquisition come from an $85-million Lake Tahoe Acquisition Bond Act passed by voters in 1982 to protect the environment, provide public recreational access and preserve wildlife habitat areas. The lots are the first acquisitions to be authorized by the conservancy under its program to protect the environmental quality of the Lake Tahoe Basin, said state Resources Secretary Gordon Van Vleck, who is conservancy chairman. The conservancy is reviewing another 1,200 lots for possible acquisition before June. The lots have high erosion hazards and are in stream environment zones, Van Vleck said.
