Unless the city agrees to assume liability, the annual Chinese New Year’s Day Parade in San Francisco this year will be canceled. Chinese festival coordinator Rose Pak said her group has been unable to find an insurance company willing to underwrite the parade, so an appeal for help will be made Monday to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. “We are saying the city ultimately is responsible,” said Pak. “We are just the people running it.” Pak said that if no insurance can be found, the parade, scheduled for next Saturday, will be canceled.
