2 Deputies Hurt in Crash of Patrol Car

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s patrol car crashed into a palm tree in the Athens district Monday, injuring two deputies.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said Deputies Kenneth Handcox, 35, and Glen Mayer, 29, were on patrol when their car struck the tree in the 1700 block of West 108th Street. Cause of the accident was under investigation.

Both deputies were taken to Los Angeles County-Martin Luther King Jr. Drew Medical Center, where they were reported in serious condition with multiple injuries.
