Center Chris Welp of the University of Washington has been named player of the year in Pacific 10 basketball.
Welp, a 7-foot, 245-pound junior, headed the All-Pac-10 team, picked by the coaches.
Others named to the all-conference first team were UCLA’s Reggie Miller, a unanimous selection, as was Welp; Steve Kerr of Arizona, Jose Ortiz of Oregon State, Paul Fortier of Washington, Kevin Johnson of California, Todd Lichti of Stanford, Keith Morrison of Washington State, Jerry Adams of Oregon and Derrick Dowell of USC.
