Local News in Brief : Topanga Canyon Resort Is Tabled
Los Angeles County planning commissioners Wednesday voted to indefinitely postpone consideration of a Topanga Canyon golf resort because of a lack of environmental information on the proposed $100 million project.
The delay is the second in two months for the planned Montevideo Country Club development. Commissioners had scheduled a March 3 hearing but later postponed it to March 27 because of problems with the environmental report for the project.
Developer Christopher R. Wojciechowski is seeking permission to build homes, a 106-room hotel and a commercial area on a 257-acre site west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, just south of Woodland Hills.
His application has drawn criticism from Topanga residents who fear it will alter the rural mountain ambiance of the area.
Montevideo spokesman Martin Carr told commissioners Wednesday that there Has been confusion over details needed in environmental reports on five alternate project plans the county has requested from Wojciechowski.
Homeowner representative Wayne Northrop urged commissioners to proceed with the March 27 hearing--and then deny Wojciechowski’s development application on environmental grounds.
Commissioners voted 4 to 0 for the new postponement.
