Capistrano Beach : Burglary Suspect Tries to Grab Officer’s Gun
An escaping burglary suspect was arrested early Thursday after a scuffle in which the suspect allegedly attempted to grab an officer’s gun, according to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Deputies reported that they responded to a commercial burglary alarm at 1 a.m. Thursday at the Chez Sun beach wear store, 34700 Pacific Coast Highway. Officers said they saw a man rush out the front of the store, then run back inside when he saw the deputies. The man then fled out a back door.
Officers were able to catch him, and the man then attempted to seize a deputy’s gun, the spokesman said. In the struggle, the man suffered a minor head injury. The suspect was identified as James Thomas Young, 25, who gave no current address. He was treated at Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo and then booked into County Jail on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and assault on an officer. Bail was set at $10,000.
