The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday voted in favor of a five-year, $250-million aid package aimed at promoting peace in strife-torn Northern Ireland.

The aid, approved by voice vote, would support efforts under the Nov. 15, 1985, agreement between Britain and the Republic of Ireland to promote economic and social development in Ulster and affected areas of the republic by creating new jobs.
