An arrest warrant was issued Monday for the son of a couple found beaten and stabbed to death Feb. 27 in their home just west of Canoga Park, Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives said.

Robert L. Spitz, 42, was being sought on suspicion of slaying his parents, Marvin Spitz, 70, and Myrtle Spitz, 68, who were killed in their home in the 24600 block of Kittridge Street, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Lynda Edmonds said.

Their bodies were discovered by another son who became concerned when he and a sister were unable to reach their parents on the telephone, Lt. Charles Elliott said. Deputies broke into the home and found Marvin Spitz’s body in the living room and his wife’s body in the kitchen, Elliott said.

The elder Spitz and his wife were beaten and stabbed several times, Elliott said. Detectives believe they had been dead about two days when they were discovered.

Robert L. Spitz lived with his parents and was last reported seen “virtually the same day” the couple was believed slain, Elliott said.
