Frontiere Says Rams Should Be Team to Play Bears in Exhibition at London

Ram owner Georgia Frontiere said Monday she wants her team to play in the NFL exhibition game against the Chicago Bears scheduled for Aug. 3 at London.

Now if only she can convince the NFL.

“I’ve always been a league person, so I don’t ever try to do anything that’s going to be out of line or scream too loud, or anything,” Frontiere said. “But I really feel like this is my game.”

Frontiere said she hopes to receive a decision from the league by week’s end. Though there has been no official word, it appears a Bears-Dallas Cowboys game is the most likely possibility. The New York Jets also are considered a candidate for the game but, like the Rams, aren’t given much of a chance.

One NFL official familiar with the situation said a deal involving the Bears and Cowboys already has been made.

Said Frontiere: “I felt like it was my game. I felt like I’ve been planning it, planning it. Then all of the sudden, everyone’s interested.

“I never try to make waves, but sometimes you have to stick up for what’s yours,” she said.

According to Frontiere and Coach John Robinson, the league is concerned about the timing of the event for the Rams. The Rams are scheduled to play a preseason game against the Houston Oilers on Aug. 6, just three days after the proposed game in London. Robinson insists that the Rams could play both games. He also said that the Rams would have a 13-day break before their next game.

“This organization would go over there and have a hell of a time and a do a very good job,” he said. “If we do it, we’ll just do it better. And we’ll fly home and play hard against Houston.”
