The World Boxing Council filed a federal lawsuit against sportscaster Howard Cosell, saying he libeled and slandered the organization in his book “I Never Played the Game.”
The suit, filed in Dallas, claims Cosell caused the WBC “disastrous scandal, ridicule and professional disrepute” by referring to it and other boxing regulators as “instruments of extortion.”
The council seeks unspecified damages in excess of $20,000.
