Arcadia : Bike Lanes Not Favored

The Arcadia Unified School District, which had been asked by the City Council to study the cost and feasibility of constructing bicycle lanes at Arcadia High School, has recommended against them because the lanes would not improve the current bicycle traffic situation.
The issue arose after David Andrew Taylor, 16, was fatally injured in a November bicycle accident on Duarte Road in front of the school.
A survey showed that about 30 students ride bicycles from the east on Duarte Road, south of the school, and 10 students ride from the east on Campus Drive, north of the school.
Discussions with students and the Arcadia Police Department indicated that the bike lanes would be used by only a few riders. The cost of the lanes would be $52,000.
