The U.S. Postal Service is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of bandits who twice in the past month robbed mail trucks outside a Winnetka post office, authorities said Wednesday.

The robberies occurred as the drivers were leaving the Postal Service station at Winnetka Avenue and Saticoy Street, said Los Angeles police Detective Robert W. Johansen.

About $19,000 in postal receipts and several stacks of registered mail with an undetermined value were taken in the two robberies, Johansen said.

The latest holdup occurred March 12 when two men--one wearing a helmet with a shield and the other with a hooded sweat shirt drawn tight around his face--jumped in front of a mail truck and forced the driver at gunpoint to hand over a bag of money, Johansen said.

In the first robbery, on Feb. 19, three unarmed men wearing ski masks pushed a mail truck driver out of his vehicle, drove off in the truck and abandoned it nearby, Johansen said.

Johansen said investigators believe at least one holdup men took part in both robberies.
