City officials gave the green light this week to Main-Pacific Property Owners to begin the second phase of a major downtown redevelopment project.
The six-acre project, which has been called “the gateway to Huntington Beach,” calls for $55 million in commercial and residential development.
Plans for the two-block area, at the northwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street and next to the Huntington Beach Pier, include a six-story building with 275 luxury, ocean-view apartments, restaurants, boutiques and specialty shops.
Merchants on Main Street will be given the choice of having their faded buildings rehabilitated to “look like new” or having new buildings erected, according to the developer.
City officials said they chose Main-Pacific Property Owners over three competitors in part because the coalitionproposed participation by downtown property owners.
Main-Pacific Property Owners is a coalition of downtown property owners, including Pacific Heritage Co. of Huntington Beach, A & M Equities of Newport Beach and eight owners of small businesses.
